Expedia Activities Booking
My first project at Expedia was with their Activities team. The goal was to create an experience that surfaced personalized recommendations while also updating the legacy UI with approved patterns and components.
Discovery
There was not much in the way of research initially. I requested access to anything I could which turned out to be some survey data. While I waited on that data, I familiarized myself with the product and its current flow. While this was going on, I also began to familiarize myself with internal UX process in order to manage timelines.
Discovery Continued
Through surveys we found most users desired information regarding space (location) and time (duration) of their activities. These two items were especially important while booking. The catch was better understanding what users wanted in an activity itself. This lead us to design and iterate on some personalization loops.
While browsing activities, the goal of this particular piece of the activity booking path was to learn more about the user every time they clicked, so the system could aid in surfacing the proper content.
